London

No other capital city offers quite what London does. Centuries of history embodied in churches, palaces and museums, sit alongside dynamic contemporary architecture and huge swathes of parks. Internationally renowned theatres, art galleries and concert halls draw visitors from home and abroad, as do world-class restaurants, hotels and shops. There is so much to see, do, engage with, that it is hard to know where to start.

The size and scale of the UK’s capital city is easier to understand when you break it down into regions. Central London is home to some of the most desirable, and expensive, properties in the city and – in some cases – the world.  Belgravia, Knightsbridge and Mayfair boast grand, sweeping, white stucco terraces and quiet, well-tended private squares.  Fitzrovia is an up-and-coming area popular with young professionals, with its proximity to Oxford and Regent Street, and Soho continues to exude its unique eclectic charm.

West London is as popular as ever with its leafy, village feel combined with stunning properties.  Notting Hill continues to thrive and still manages to pull off that combination of edge and glamour, Fulham is where well-heeled families tend to migrate and Kensington and Chelsea are not only fabulous shopping and eating destinations but offer both handsome properties and private squares.

North London’s Georgian terraces and Victorian town houses have a reputation for attracting liberal, artistic, musical and academic types, especially Hampstead which boasts 60 blue plaques celebrating its famous and diverse former residents. Islington and Camden continue to appeal to a younger, more hip crowd whilst Barnet is a very up-and-coming district offering larger properties with gardens.

To the South West one can find impressive, larger, family homes with more substantial gardens. The open space of Richmond Park is a big attraction for residents there and Wimbledon offers an elegance combined with a buzzing energy each year in the month of July. Clapham is sometimes known as ‘nappy valley’ due to the number of young families who love to live there whilst Croydon is becoming an increasingly popular location for Londoners seeking more space.

East London has undergone a renaissance from scruffy and ignored to becoming the home of the hipster, with many old warehouses redeveloped as fashionable apartments. Parts of South London such as Brixton and Streatham, have an edgier, more urban, feel and contrast with the residential splendour and chic shopping streets of Richmond and Barnes.
